National Institute of Justice Director Mr. Dragomir Yordanov will be the new Minister of Justice. That was announced on March 12 during the presentation of the caretaker government, appointed by President Plevneliev.
For the most part of his career Mr. Yordanov has been Head of the school for judges. From 1999 to 2004 he has been executive director of the Center for training of magistrates. From 2004 to 2009 he has been deputy executive and program director of the National Institute of Justice. Mr. Yordanov has been a judge for three years, and for year he has served as criminal judge in Kosovo as participant in the mission of the European Union for the Rule of law in Kosovo.
The caretaker Justice Minister has no legislative initiative, but certain tasks await, amongst which the cooperation with the European Commission with regard to the Cooperation and verification mechanism, as well as the debate on some bills, already in the Ministry – the one on the new Criminal Code and that on some amendments in the Judicial System Act, concerning the appointment competitions, judicial appraisals, performance evaluation and workload assessment.
